#184 South East Queensland Camping

Australia is blessed with an incredible choice of places to go camping.

Specifically, in South East Queensland, we are also spoilt for options.

Although many options are available, there are two particular places I’ve been going to since I was young, and of course, I continue to go to them into my adult life.

A colleague at work today asked me about places to go camping where there isn’t a noise restriction at 10 pm per se.

This sparked me to write it out for others also.

I nominated the following camping areas in the South East Queensland area:

Both locations have a number of camping areas in national parks that are spread out and aren’t within close proximity to other campers (like you would have in a caravan park for example).

The following resources should be used to book your next trip though as both islands require travel access via a barge service:

For Moreton Island:

For North Stradbroke Island

Noting the following:

  1. Moreton Island also requires a 4WD permit (4-wheel-drive) as there are no sealed or serviceable roads, the entire island is only accessed by 4WD
  2. North Stradbroke Island also requires a 4WD permit, however, if you don’t stay in the Minjerribah Camping areas, the island has sealed normal roads and can get around in a standard motor vehicle as you would on the mainland. You will not be able to access the beach camping areas though.

I hope this helps with your next adventure.
