Throughout my early years of high school, between the ages of 13-15, I clearly recall being a little pest.
There are many things that come flying back to mind but none stand like the following.
On day one of most of our classes throughout high school, the teachers would always order us in seats using the alphabetical succession of our last names.
If you had a last name of Anthony or Andersen for example, you were at the front to the left of the teacher and if you were anything after ‘T’, you were back to the right.
Having the last name Buckmaster, I found myself majority of the time front and left of the class.
The primary reason why the teachers chose this geographical order in their classroom, was of course to ensure they minimised as much as possible each student sitting next to their friends which often led to disruption in the class.
Unfortunately for the teachers, this backfired with a pupil like me.
No matter where I sat in the class, I would talk and ask questions.
You name it, whoever I was next to, I was distracting.
As a consequence, I would find myself standing outside the classroom on my own waiting all lonely because I’d been sent out for causing a ruckus.
I enjoyed it but my learning didn’t.
Luckily by 16/17 years old I matured and realised the importance of focusing on my education.
That which I am truly grateful.
