#12.0 Please Put Your Rubbish in a Bin

The Issue

There’s one particular thing that annoys me more than anything in this world.

And that’s not putting rubbish in a bin.

Bottle and cigarettes pushed into the sand (not even in the bottle)

The Situation

I am extremely grateful to live in such an unbelievable country and am able to utilise the endless supply of outdoor spaces like parks, beaches, national parks, and so on.

But nothing creates irritation in me more than when people use these facilities and don’t put their waste into a nearby bin (or take it with them if a bin isn’t provided).

I just don’t understand how hard it is, once you’ve enjoyed a couple of beverages on the beach watching the sunset for example, to simply pick it all up, walk 30 metres up the beach entrance and chose from one of hundreds of bins provided by the council?

We all enjoy spending time with our families and friends, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with having a couple of beverages as the sun goes down.

What Does It Cost You?

It costs you nothing, but bending over and a couple of well earnt steps (after whatever you’ve eaten or drunk).

I’ve had to pick up numerous bags of KFC before, cigarette butts, bottles etc etc and not only is that destroying your inside, it’s destroying the environment.

I’m not even going to start on coffee cups.

I may sound boring and complaining however I think it’s necessary to get off my chest.

It doesn’t matter whether it’s Australia’s most prestigious beach or the gutter outside somebody else’s house you drive past, please either put it in a recycling bin if it’s recyclable or place it into a general waste bin.

The Consequences

A recent article I read on The ASEAN Post (The Association of South East Asian Nations) states the following:

“Globally, it is estimated that over 100 million marine animals are killed each year by plastic waste. This include species mentioned above as well as fish, seals and birds.”

Link to the article here.

And that’s only plastic waste, there’s so many other types of pollution being released into the environment.

Conclusion

It’s simple, don’t leave it, please bin it.

I want my children and their children to be able to enjoy this planet well after I’m gone.

Sorry, rant over.
